Shiny Red Houses painting project: Metalwork Makeover

A few years ago we replaced one of our original screen doors. Before David put the old door on the curb I grabbed my screwdriver and removed the decorative metalworking from the door. Then I put it in the basement and promptly forgot about it.

Do you crafty/home-decorating/fixer-upper gals have a room of shame? You know what I mean. The place where you put all the furniture, knick-knacks, fabric, paint, slipcovers and decorative hoohaa that you're not using right now, but may want to use again at any moment. Mine is the basement. Do. Not. Go. Down. There.

Anyway, David did a remarkable thing on Sunday. He cleaned out a corner of the basement. However, while down there he noticed the metalworking and had the audacity to suggest we throw it out. I assured him that I had a plan for it.

Today was the day for that plan. Here it is unpainted.
It's laying on a dropcloth getting ready for its beauty treatment.

I love spraypaint.

Cheap and easy. I found this color last year and had no idea what I would use it on, but I picked it up knowing that the perfect project would come along.

Here it is done and hanging on Rebecca's wall above her bed.

I have one more of these pieces hiding in my basement. Don't tell David.
