You know how sometimes you are incredibly aware of the genetic legacy of a shared grandparent? Check out my cousin Cheryl's exploration of Lily and her frog cycle picture. I laughed so hard I scared the pugs!

A day of surprises!
I am very happy to announce that this is now a sty free blog. Rebecca was an absolute trooper today and handled her surgery with courage and grace. The procedure took about ten minutes and was completely without incident.
As if no longer carrying around a ball of pus on your eyelid is not reason enough to be happy, we were surprised twice today with goodies.
My dear cousin Cheryl sent us a wonderful souvenir from her vacation.
Shells!

Rebecca sorted some and used others to make a necklace. I've put them in a glass jar with some beach sand at the bottom. Doesn't everyone just happen to have beach sand in their basement waiting for the right moment?
It was such a delight to go through the shells and imagine their life before they found their way to the beach, then a box and finally our home. Thank you Cheryl!
A little later in the day the doorbell rang which caused my dogs to completely lose their minds. I went to the door to assure whomever it was that I would not be releasing the hounds when I saw our pal Charlie hurrying back to his mom's car after making a super secret delivery.
Look at all the goodies they brought us!

Each item had a note.
This one was on the flowers.

We know who these are for!
There were also these books for Rebecca.

And this one for Lily.

Charlie made David a beautiful thank you note for inviting him to the set last weekend.

Graham crackers which Lily wasted no time getting into.

Guess who this is for?

I know they meant to write "This belongs to Sara and if you value your life you'll keep your mitts off it."
Thank you so much to Amy, Sean, Charlie and Theo for all the goodies. You guys made us blush.
It was so lovely to find ourselves in the thoughts of others today.
I find myself saying it all the time, but must say it again. We are so lucky and I am so grateful.

In which I put my junk to use.
I know that I may have mentioned it before, but I really have the nicest readers on the planet.
First Valerie said I was pretty, then my mom said I was pretty (though it is in her contract to do so), then my husband said I was pretty (see above comment about contracts), then Michael didn't actually say that I was pretty though I know that he meant it. Then Marisol and Bearly Sane added their declarations of pretty, followed by Mgster, Lisa and Ginger. All of these nice people taking a moment for me. I love you guys, even the ones for whom it's not in my contract.
Now, onto the junk. Several readers, TJIC and Cheryl, cough cough, expressed twitchy horror at my latest pile of junk. I will now demonstrate the uses of junk in the home.
Exhibit A:

Scrabble letters and the nest that Cheryl sent me.
Exhibit B:

Tartan ice chest with flowers.
Exhibit C:

Wide shot of Exhibits A and B.
Exhibit D:

Old typewriter, plaid thermos and scrabble letters.
Exhibit E:

Rest of scrabble letters ready to spell important words. Like chocolate. Or junk.
Exhibit F:

Fall junk in a basket.
Exhibit G:

Love blooms.
There you have it people. Controlled clutter. Junk used divinely. Fear not the junk, for it will be your decorative workhorse in the darkest of hours. It will hold your hand and free you from having a home that looks like every other house on your street.
Of course if the junk doesn't work for you there is always chocolate!

All the news!
You guys are so awesome! Thanks for all of your sweetness and understanding about the too-too's.
Many of you also left comments about red patent leather Mary Jane's for grownup ladies.
Look what I found at Zappos.com!

Check out these babies! They will put you back 120.00.
I like these too!

In other news I took out two window air conditioners today and did not drop either one out the window!
Guess what else I did today? Cleaned the house, changed the sheets and put my fall duvet cover on my bed. I need to go get a heap of pumpkins for my porch and window boxes and I am all set!
It's going to get cold here this week. Other mothers on the playground were complaining about the forecast. I could barely contain my glee. I just love the cold.
You know what you should do today? Go check out my crazy cousin Cheryl's blog. She's having a chocolate giveaway and much as I want to win those suckers, it would not be fair to hog them.
Yes, I know that this post lacks cohesion. I could have told you all about my trip to the dentist today and how the hygienist told me that if I don't start flossing I am going to die, but I would hate to bore you with such unpleasant details.
I just remembered! I have some good news to share! David broke the towel rack in the bathroom! Why is that good news? Isn't it obvious?
I have a bonafide excuse to go to Homegoods and if other things just fall in my cart, well who am I to halt retail destiny?
The "My Junk is Your Junk" giveaway ends Friday so be sure to get your comments in!
