A field trip and an American Girl giveaway...

Today after school I surprised the children with a field trip. I took them to the American Girl Doll store. I like field trips that involve shopping.

We needed to pick up Chrissa. I love Chrissa. She's the Girl of the Year and her story is all about bullying and how to handle being bullied. She'll be raffled off on Saturday at the Peirce School Spring Fair.

We got there right after school and the store was empty.

I told Rebecca and Lily that they could each chose something to get for themselves. Rebecca chose to get the mini Rebecca Rubin doll. Rebecca Rubin is the new historical doll. She is Jewish American and her story takes place in 1914.

Then Rebecca used her own money to buy this outfit.

Here she is with her loot.

Lily had other plans. She really wanted to get her doll's hair done. If you are not familiar with the American Girl phenomenon I can understand how crazy it sounds. Doll hairstyles. Insane.

It is crazy. But it's my kind of crazy, so I shelled out $20 so that Lily's doll could get a fancy hair-do.

The women who have this job are very sweet and friendly. They chatted with us about dolls and hairstyles.

Here's Lily's doll before her hairstyle.

Let's be honest. She's having a bad doll hair day.

Here she is getting her hair styled. Ooooh! Look! Better already!

Here's the finished hairdo. So lovely, isn't she?

At the store I spied this cute puppy.

Her name is Sugar and she's one of the new American Girl pets. I've been thinking about doing some giveaways, so I picked her up to give to one of my lucky readers. If you'd like to try to win Sugar, simply leave a comment in the comment section under this post with your name. (Use the Name/URL option, but leave the URL blank if you don't have a URL.) I'll end the contest at 5pm EST on Friday by picking a random winner and will announce the winner here on Saturday morning. One entry per person please. Good luck!

Julie would love this, but I will kill you if you ever tell her it came from the American Girl store. We've managed to escape the entire American Girl "thing" in this house!

This may help for Avril's NFP (Need For Pet). Paul is trying to get her psyched about fish, but even I think fish are boring. She'll wear us down eventually but this lovely puppy may push that moment back a little:-)

I think that Hannah needs this because as you know she loves watching the Pugs and would LOVE to have her own puppy to take care of

Lee (and if we win you can find me after school any day sitting on the bookcase with you)

I love your blog! Katie is dying to buy the Rebecca Rubin doll. She has saved 37 dollars so far and she is trying to convince me to pay for the other half of the doll. SO far I have not caved. We'll see how long that lasts. Maybe the doggy will help!

You know how my girls feel about AGs. I have clothed and sheltered the four AGs that currently live at our house. They would welcome your pup with open arms.

I double dog dare you to randomly pick me as the American Dog winner.

(I'd probably give it to Jenny, but then again, who knows? Maybe I'd snuggle with it every night before falling asleep...)

That animal looks like a predator. A predator that could eat a cat.

We could use a dog in this house. I was laughing out loud at some of your entries, particularly the ashes. You could do this professionally, but it would not be as much fun.

The kids have been begging for a dog -- I wonder if their cravings would be satisfied with little "Sugar." A MOM can dream . . . :-0
