My craziest painting job ever.

One of the many problems that I had with our house when we first moved in about 7 years ago was the gigantic driveway. The driveway is long and narrow in front of the house, goes up along the side and then covers about half of the backyard leading up to David's office. In some ways having a huge black top is great. The kids have a big area for riding toys, hop-scotch and a wading pool. The down side is that is was unbearably ugly. The budget to rip up the driveway and replace it with grass was non-existent so I did what I do in these situations.

I stew.

I stewed, I obsessed and then I stewed some more.

Then I had an idea. An insane idea. An idea that only someone completely nuts would consider.

Readers, I painted fake bricks on my driveway.

It took two gallons of brick colored outdoor paint, 16 hours and knee pads. I am idiot so I did it in July in the middle of a heat wave. 500 square feet of crazy.

The funniest part is that most people think that it's real brick. Their brain says, "brick" and they never stop to notice that it's just paint.

Here are the pictures.

Now you know. Try not to judge me too harshly.

Sara, that looks incredible! Although...July (in Alabama) would definitely not be the time to do it.

That is so cool! I would do the same thing! Decide right on the hottest day of the year I HAD to do something like that!! It looks great! You know NONE of us would say you are crazy!! We're right there with you!
I went to B&N tonight with my gift card and I got 2 books a magazine and a coffee! I had a great time!

You lose the right to EVER call any of my stunts "insane" in the future.

Wow! That is all I can say! It looks so, so ,so REAL! This is the first I have visited your blog...I found you on Daisy Cottage....so glad I did...I then skipped to the post before this and I can SO identify with you about the grumpy mornings with kids....mine do the same...mine fight about whose mommy I am too! lol and on further inspection, found you are a LLL leader! I almost became one until my daughter decided she would scream everytime I put her in the carseat...needless to say, we stayed home ALOT in the first 2 years of her life. Now she is 3 but much better in the car...Too funny about your leading a meeting and thinking about that piece of furniture. I am still nursing my daughter and nursed my son till he was 5. Take Care and glad I found ya!

It just blends right in with that little white fence, looks like that brick was meant to be there all along. Makes the office in the back look oh so charming. I totally want to play hopscotch right now so bad! I adore your neighborhood! That is one heck of a summer project to take on in July. Did you have to put a sealer on that outdoor paint?
